During a recent training session, Antony had a short interview with TNT Sports Brazil. The Brazilian striker burst into tears when sharing about his difficult time at Man United.
“I had a difficult time at Man United. I really didn’t feel happy anymore. I told my brother that I couldn’t take it anymore.
Only I understand how I felt when I got home. I didn’t even have enough energy to play with my children, I spent days without eating, and locked myself in my room,” Antony said.
With these words, Antony seemed to have closed the door to returning to Man United. In January, he left the “red devils” to play on loan at Real Betis.
Here, Antony had an unexpected revival. The Brazilian striker shone even brighter than when he played for Ajax, scoring 8 goals in 24 appearances for Real Betis.
Not only that, Antony also contributed a lot in terms of playing style.
This number of goals is more than Antony’s previous year and a half at Man United. He only scored 3 goals in the 2023-2024 season, and 1 goal in the first leg of the 2024-2025 season.
In the summer of 2022, Antony was brought to Man United for 95 million euros from Ajax.
He played relatively well in his first season with 8 goals, but then his form dropped dramatically in the next 2 seasons.
Before being fired, even coach Erik Ten Hag lost faith in Antony. Man United immediately sent the Brazilian star on loan after they terminated the contract with the Dutch strategist.
When Antony arrived, Real Betis were still struggling in the bottom half of the rankings, but now they finished the season in 6th place in La Liga.
Not only that, the team is also aiming for the continental title with the final match against Chelsea in the early morning of May 29.
