A key player for Liverpool is reportedly eager to join Real Madrid in the upcoming summer transfer window, as per a Spanish report which also sheds light on Xabi Alonso’s interest in Arne Slot’s standout performer. Former Liverpool midfielder Alonso has officially succeeded Carlo Ancelotti as the manager of Madrid. Though Liverpool had hoped to recruit the former Madrid star to replace Jurgen Klopp, he remained at Bayer Leverkusen before departing the German club to take on the managerial role at Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid has already secured an agreement to acquire Trent Alexander-Arnold, set to leave Liverpool as a free agent this summer. The club is also interested in Ibrahima Konate, and while Madrid president Florentino Perez plans to sign him for free at the conclusion of next season, the club is ready to pay a transfer fee to Liverpool to bring him in this summer. Alexis Mac Allister is another Liverpool talent that has caught Madrid’s eye. Recent Spanish media reports have suggested that Los Blancos see the midfielder as an ideal addition to their lineup.
Fichajes has now provided an update on the situation, highlighting Mac Allister’s view on a potential move to Madrid and Alonso’s strong interest in him. Alonso believes that Mac Allister’s presence in his squad could lead Madrid to clinch the Champions League title next season. The former Madrid midfielder has expressed to his superiors ‘his longing to have the Argentine midfielder as a key element of the new European initiative’. Fichajes states that Mac Allister’s ‘camp is entirely open to changing clubs if the chance to don the jersey of Europe’s most successful club presents itself’.
The report further mentions that the 26-year-old, who cost Liverpool an initial £35 million when he was acquired from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2023, is personally enthusiastic about joining Real Madrid. Although Fichajes is not the most credible source, their reports should be approached with skepticism. Nevertheless, Madrid’s interest in signing Mac Allister from Liverpool has been broadly reported. Earlier this month, Defensa Central noted that Ancelotti had advised Madrid to secure Mac Allister before stepping down as manager. Esteemed publications like Marca and Empire of the Kop have also reported Madrid’s interest in the Argentine star.
However, Liverpool is unlikely to consider selling Mac Allister, who is highly regarded by Slot. Earlier this month, Slot expressed on Liverpool’s official website the value Mac Allister brings: “I don’t consider him underrated because he played nearly every game. The few times he didn’t play were due to needing rest or minor injuries. He’s a crucial player, with game intelligence, and is very comfortable with the ball. What makes him unique is that players with such game insight and ball skills are seldom as aggressive and intense off the ball. He’s one of the few players globally who blends great game intelligence and ball skills with tenacity off the ball. In our midfield, his tenacity is remarkable.”
