According to AS, Alonso is preparing for important meetings with three of the team’s stars, including Luka Modric, Rodrygo and David Alaba.
With Modric, Alonso is said to have successfully convinced the midfielder to sign a contract extension. Modric will turn 40 in September but is still being retained by Real for next season thanks to his experience and leadership qualities.
In the case of Rodrygo, Alonso is determining the striker’s position in the team’s plans for next season. The former Leverkusen coach plans to apply a two-striker system, with Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe as the main attacking duo, while Jude Bellingham will play as a left-sided midfielder.
This could force Rodrygo to accept a reserve role if he decides to stay at Real Madrid. Rodrygo is having an unimpressive season with “Los Blancos” but has left his mark with 13 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Alaba has made few contributions but is the third highest paid player at Real. He has had difficulty asserting himself due to injuries and inconsistent form. Under Alonso, Alaba’s role has been affected after the arrival of new signing Dean Huijsen.
Alaba’s versatility and experience are big pluses, but the former Bayern Munich star needs to improve his fitness and play more consistently next season if he is to stay at Real Madrid.
In addition to finalizing the future of the aforementioned trio, coach Alonso is also rushing to complete the deals for Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool and Alvaro Carreras from Benfica. Both are expected to be able to play for Real Madrid in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
